Abuse can come in many forms and unfortunately strikes the elderly with alarming regularity. Elder abuse is illegal and there are many organizations tasked with fighting this crime. If you suspect that a friend or family member is being abused mentally, physically, sexually or financially - there are solutions.
Physical or mental handicaps can make a senior overly dependent on individuals who are not capable of providing adequate care. The focus should not be to place blame or punish, but to protect the senior whose present standard of living is unacceptable.
Elder Care, Health Care, Protective Service and Law Enforcement employees are required by California Law to report known or suspected cases of physical abuse, financial abuse or neglect by telephone to Adult Protective Services or local law enforcement agencies - immediately.
